Blues, Jazz and Funk Band to Play in Moke Hill Park July 1

Get ready for an unbeatable show featuring nonstop infectious grooves by James Faifua & the Jukes on Wednesday, July 1, in Mokelumne Hill's Shutter Tree Park. It all starts at 6:30 pm when the Calaveras Arts Council's Music in the Parks moves its traveling summer series to this historic Gold Rush town. The concert is free and picnics are encouraged. Bring low-back chairs.

James Faifua & the Jukes is a Blues, Rhythm & Blues, Funk band originally from San Francisco and now the foothills. This five piece band is dedicated to playing progressive urban blues infused with jazz and funk. Their repertoire includes tunes by such greats as Little Walter Jacobs, Muddy Waters, Willy Dixon, Sonny Boy Williamson, and Magic Sam. All this lends
itself to a most enjoyable listening and dancing experience.

The band members have extensive musical backgrounds. James Faifua has been
bawling the blues and playing harmonica for many decades performing his
first gig at the Avalon Ballroom. He went on to perform in Los Angeles with
Big Mama Thorton and then to Detroit and back to San Francisco where he
played with Bay Area blues legends, such as Francis Clay, Luther Tucker,
Troyce Keyes and Mississippi Johnny Waters

Mike Evans is second guitar. Forming his first band in 1974 he went on to
play clubs in Oregon and has recently worked with Norm Walton of Copper
Holdings Company. Dave Arrich, bass, started with contemporary gospel music,
then a classic rock 'n roll band, and even a local German club house band
that went beyond Bavarian and into big band, western , jitterbug. Arrich
says perfomring the blues with Faifua is "challenging and fun." J erry Hohe
, drums, grew up with a musical family from North Beach in San Francisco. He
learned the drums but went into wine and spirit sales. Now he's back
providing the bluesy beat. Robert Crownoer, on first guitar, has a long
history of playing rock and most recently, being influenced by bluesman
Shane Dwight.

The Moke Hill Lions Club will be offering delicious desserts for sale. To
