This Sunday’s featured salad chef at the Jackson Farmers’ Market is Susan Komure. Susan lives in Mokelumne Hill with her husband (and winner of the Creative Zucchini category in the Great Zucchini Contest) Rod Hanchett. In addition to being a therapist, mother and grandmother, Susan is a wonderful supporter of the market. She understands the meaning of a community sharing food and fun together. She has honed her culinary arts skills through membership in a local food and travel club. The vendors of the Jackson Farmers’ Market thank Susan for her support and culinary talents.
THE RECIPE: NIGELLA”S WATERMELON SALAD
When asked about the recipe she will be preparing, Susan said, “ I love watermelon, but wondered what other things can you do with this BIG melon without wasting it.” A meal with a close friend, introduced me to this thirst quenching salad. I searched for the recipe and found it on Nigella’s website. I love eating watermelon on its own, but this is the perfect way to experience a new method of food preparation and taste. I hope you all enjoy it.”
The Jackson's Farmers' Market is open from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. every Sunday. It is located in the parking lot behind Mel & Faye's Diner on Hwy 49 in Jackson.
