Celtic Favorites-Golden Bough-to Kick Off Free MUSIC IN THE PARKS

The Calaveras Arts Council kicks off its 2009 series of free Music in the
Parks on Wednesday, June 17, at the Copperopolis Town Square, starting at
6:30 pm. If you haven't yet visited this whole new town with a historic
past, this is a good time. The free concert, the first of ten this summer in
various parks of Calaveras County, will feature Golden Bough, a trio that
captures the essence and joy of traditional Irish and Scottish Celtic music
-- as well as Wales, Cornwall, The Isle of Man, French Brittany and Spanish
Galicia.

These modern day minstrels include Kathy Sierra, Margie Butler and Paul
Espinosa, who've created a unique sound unto themselves. Since their
formation in 1980, Golden Bough has traveled great distances to numerous
countries, to bring their music to enthusiastic folk fans the world over
including regular appearances in Calaveras County and the surrounding
foothills. Backing themselves on an array of acoustic instruments,
including Celtic harp, guitar, octave-mandolin, mandolin, accordion, violin,
penny-whistle and bodhran, they blend their voices in pristine three-part
harmony and feature haunting solo vocals. In the recording studio, as well
as on stage, Golden Bough captures the essence and joy of traditional music.

As with all concerts of Music in the Parks, bring your own low-back chairs
and picnics. Three businesses on the Copperopolis Town Square serve food,
from coffee and wine to ice cream and smoothies to a full service restaurant
and bar. Many other retailers will be open for this evening's concert. To
reach Copperopolis Town Square, travel west for 15 minutes on Highway 4 from
Angels Camp and follow the signs, turning left onto Little John Road. Signs
will guide you to the parking areas.

This is the 18th season that the Arts Council, a non-profit, public benefit
corporation, has presented these popular free events. A free Program that
lists all the concerts of the season will be available at this first
concert. Next Wednesday's (6/24) Music in the Parks will be at the Valley
Springs Ball Field above the school featuring the ever-popular Black Irish
Band. Even though some of their songs have the same roots as Golden Bough,
The Black Irish have a totally different sound and style.
