Friends of the Amador County Library at Amador Farmers Market.

July 8 and 22 in Pine Grove and July 18 in Sutter Creek. Support this
great organization: buy a book for a bargain price, then sit and enjoy
it along with the market atmosphere at the market’s café tables.
Bring Your Shopping List to the Farmers Market

Every week the produce at the Farmers Market grows. There is such a
variety of produce to choose from now. Large and small Yukon Gold and
Peruvian Purple potatoes, cantaloupes, watermelons (large and small),
green bell peppers, jalapeno peppers, cucumbers (Armenian, slicing,
Japanese, single serving), grapefruit, white nectarines (yummy),
strawberries, homemade jams, jellies and preserves are just some of the
choices you have. Check out the Lemon & Lime Curds to create that
special dinner or desert. We have lots of ripe tomatoes and heirlooms.
There are two different local grown olive oils to choose from each with
their own distinctive taste. Don’t forget the goat’s milk soap and skin
and body treatments. We have local honey, herbs cut and potted, worm
castings, homemade quilts and homemade baked goods. So much more…
Start Planning, More Bakeoffs and Challenges Coming.

Zucchini and Yellow Squash with Pesto

¼ cup packed fresh basil leaves
1/3 cup fresh grated Parmesan (1 ounce approx)
1 Tablespoon pine nuts
1/2 Teaspoon salt
1 Tablespoon fresh lemon juice
½ cup extra-virgin olive oil
1 pound zucchini (about 2 large)
½ pound yellow squash (about 1 large)

In food processor puree together basil, Parmesan, nuts, salt juice, and
oil until smooth and season with pepper. (Can make this 1 day ahead and
chilled, cover.)

Cut zucchini and yellow squash lengthwise into very thin slices. Arrange
slices in one layer, overlapping them slightly, on 2 large platters and
drizzle pesto over slices. Serves 6 as a first course.

Fresh Free Range Eggs

The color of the egg does not determine it’s taste. What impacts the
flavor is how fresh the egg is and what the chickens were fed. A
farm-fresh egg- with its plump, orange yolk and rich full flavor is
such a culinary delight in comparison to the pallid, sometimes weeks
old version that is picked up in the supermarket. You can’t beat the
taste of a fresh egg. Once you get your eggs home from the Farmers
Market, store them in their original carton on a shelf in the fridge,
not in the compartment in the door. This prevents them from absorbing
refrigerator odors and from being jostled.
