Mary Vernick Wilborn passed away in her Mokelumne Hill home on Saturday November 6, 2010. She was born in Ohio in 1917, served as a nurse in the Navy during World War II, and, with her husband Robert G. Wilborn, a chiropractor, moved to Mokelumne Hill in 1952. For over thirty years they conducted a highly successful publishing firm, Health Research, reprinting rare and out-of-print books. Their Lafayette Street business hired scores of local residents – providing employment for them just steps away from their homes.

Born January 11, 1919 - Died June 21, 2010

Vern Harrison Tyrrell passed away Monday, June 21, 2010 in Camas, Washington. He was born Jan. 11, 1919 in Petaluma. He lived in Mokelumne Hill for the last 35 years before moving to Washington in April.

Thank you to Moke Hill for another successful 4th of July. I hope everyone had fun. We all missed Cathy Bourland not being here. She said it was the first 4th of July she missed in 30 years. Let's hope she makes it back here next year. The Fire Association still has some Moke Hill hats, t-shirts, reuseable grocery bags, magnets and postcards left. The postcards and magnets were Kevin Brady's design. Moke Hill Nuts is kind enough to sell these items for us. They will also be sold at the Union House when it opens. If you didn't get a Moke Hill water bottle, don't worry.

At the Mokelumne Hill Town Hall at 1:00 PM, on Sunday, April 25, friends of Jeff Tuttle, DA of Calaveras County and one of Moke Hill’s most beloved sons, will gather for refreshments, companionship, music, and storytelling --- all dedicated to Jeff’s memory. There will be a viewing the day before at San Andreas Memorial Chapel, Saturday, April 24, from 10 AM to 4 PM.

Hello everyone,

The memorial service for Jeff Tuttle will begin at 1pm Sunday, April 25, at the Mokelumne Hill Town Hall.

Since there will probably be more guests than the Town Hall can accommodate, Jeff's family asked Ron and Jane to provide a viewing option at the Hotel Leger.

The entire community stands in mourning along with the Richard Tuttle family at the death this week-end of Mokelumne Hill son, Jeff Tuttle.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.

Julia Costello’s house in Mokelumne Hill sits two-and-a-half hours and 130 miles from the nearest of California’s many Spanish missions.

Not the most likely place for the historian to pen her most recent book: “The California Missions,” a volume critics call an “authoritative” guide to the Golden State’s iconic adobe religious compounds.

Romita Swanson, a native Californian and long time resident of Calaveras County passed away peacefully at her home on January 31, 2010, with family and friends present. She was active in the Mokelumne Hill community and local organizations for many years, particularly the Mokelumne Hill Women's Club, Community Club, and Girl Scouts. She was well known for her role in developing and orchestrating the infamous Women's Club Shows and Kiddie Kapers, starring many local townspeople and children. She was also an avid reader and sports enthusiast. Per her wishes, no services will be held.
